Chard and Ilminster Boxing Club Raises £3,500 in Seven Hour Tractor Tyre Fundraiser
Chard and Ilminster Amateur Boxing Club has raised around £3,500 through a demanding endurance fundraiser designed to help cover rising operational costs.
On 9 May, fifteen club members aged from 13 to over 60 took part in a tractor tyre challenge along the cycle route from Chard to Ilminster Football Club and back. The effort took approximately seven hours.
The club, based at 6 Victoria Avenue, has served local athletes for nearly 19 years. Like many grassroots sports organisations, it has faced sustained pressure from inflation, facility bills and general running expenses.
Chairman Keith Roberts said the event was intended to secure short term financial breathing room while keeping training provision stable for younger members and senior fighters.
Support came from former members, local businesses and residents who donated along the route and online.
Club officials described the result as encouraging and said further community events are being considered to strengthen long term financial resilience.
