Chard Hockey Club Celebrates Unbeaten Ladies Season and Long Service at End of Season Awards

Chard Hockey Club's Ladies 1st XI completed an unbeaten campaign with 17 wins and an 85 goal positive difference, while volunteers were recognised at the annual awards in Ilminster.

Chard Hockey Club marked a standout season at its end of season awards evening held at The Shrubbery Hotel in Ilminster.

The Ladies 1st XI were the central story after completing an unbeaten Sedgemoor Division 2 campaign with 17 wins, no defeats and a positive goal difference of 85. The Men 1st XI also delivered a strong season, recording a 19 match unbeaten run to secure third place in their division.

Alongside team results, the club highlighted long term volunteer contribution. Trevor Goss received Clubman of the Year recognition, reflecting a 43 year connection with the club that includes 31 continuous years as a player before moving into coaching with the ladies section.

Committee members said the awards night was designed to recognise both performance and service, with volunteer continuity seen as essential to sustaining the club across multiple teams and age groups.

The balance between competitive achievement and volunteer commitment remains a defining feature of grassroots hockey across Somerset, where clubs rely heavily on unpaid coaching, administration and matchday support.

Chard Hockey Club is now preparing pre season planning for the next campaign.
